For Washington City Paper, I followed young Central American women who were set to lose their immigration status in 2018. This cover story explored the potential ripple effects in the D.C. area of ending a perpetually extended “temporary” status.

Fatal crashes prompt scrutiny of police pursuits, alarm Maryland AG

The majority of people killed in Maryland police chases in the past 2 1/2 years were either a passenger of the person officers were pursuing or were “bystanders” in an unrelated vehicle, highlighting the high cost of pursuits for people who happen to be nearby.

Baltimore County officer investigated for punching 2nd detainee: ‘Seems to be a pattern’

A Baltimore County Police sergeant investigated for punching a Black man inside a precinct in 2020 was investigated two years later for punching a different Black man. He wasn’t punished either time. “This seems to be a pattern,” a major wrote.
